ABOUT AARON

My background

Hi, I’m Aaron Johnson – and South Fulton has been home to me and my family for nearly 20 years.

I’m running for City Council because I truly believe in the promise of our community. For the past two decades, I’ve rolled up my sleeves and worked side by side with neighbors to make South Fulton a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Public service isn’t just a job for me – it’s who I am. Most recently, I served for eight years on the Fulton County Board of Elections, including time as Vice Chair. I’ve also led the City of South Fulton’s Board of Zoning Appeals, where I helped make thoughtful decisions about how our neighborhoods grow.

Working with young people has always been close to my heart. From being Chair of Stonewall Tell Elementary’s All Pro Dad’s program, to volunteering at Sandtown Middle and serving as a PTSA officer at Westlake High, I’ve been proud to support our schools. I even had the honor of serving on the Fulton Schools Community Council as a parent representative – a role I took seriously because our kids deserve the best.

I’m also proud to be a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Here in South Fulton, I serve as Chair of the “Voteless People is a Hopeless People” initiative, and I lead political engagement efforts across the state as Georgia District Political Action Committee Chair. Civic involvement matters, and I’ve made it part of my life’s work to help people find their voice and use it.

Professionally, I serve as Chief of Staff to Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman. I manage the day-to-day operations of his office, lead constituent services, and advise on public policy. Before that, I worked as District Director for Congresswoman Nikema Williams and held key leadership roles with the Atlanta REALTORS Association and the Atlanta Commercial Board of REALTORS.

Over my 28-year journey in public service and politics, I’ve had the privilege of working with Georgia leaders like Governor Roy Barnes, Mayor Shirley Franklin, Congressman John Lewis, and Fulton County Chairman John Eaves. I also served as Deputy Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Georgia.

I was born and raised in Moultrie, Georgia, and I'm a proud graduate of Morris Brown College, where I studied Legal Studies. Today, I’m most proud to be a husband and dad – married to Dr. Alanna Jackson Johnson, an administrator at Westlake High, and the father of Cierra, Aaron Miles, and Austin. We recently became grandparents to a beautiful granddaughter, Naomi.

I love this city, and I’m ready to keep working for you. Let’s grow South Fulton – together, the smart way.
